Trending in China: Coffee in green peppers?

China’s hyper-competitive coffee industry has led to China-unique innovations such as beef ball coffee, preserved egg coffee and a pickled cabbage brew. But for some coffee sellers, a wacky coffee mix simply isn’t enough, with brands innovating the cup/vessel to stand out.

One interesting cup that caught our eye was Taijuan Coffee in Shanghai which made lattes served in green, yellow and red peppers. The beverage was very popular. Most consumers thought the coffee tasted quite normal with the flavour of peppers very light, but praised the whole experience.

It doesn’t just stop at peppers, coffee stores are selling coffee served in roasted sweet potatoes and even fish balls! For Italians who turn their noses up at pineapple on pizzas, it would be interesting to hear what they think of this!

It is another example of how Chinese consumers embrace brands that dare to try something different - not just the product, but the whole experience!
